Video can add rich imagery to your site and also tell a story in a way words sometimes cannot. But, many of my clients don't have a lot of quality video or no one on staff who can film and edit video for the web. Static images are rarely a problem fortunately. I've found some cool web tools that you may find helpful getting starting adding video to your Convio pages. The best part is that they are all free!

Do you need to create video slideshows using static images or edit/splice existing video for use on the web?

This is a free program that allows you to build slideshows of images, mix in video if you have it, edit video, and add cool transitions, sound effects, and music to create a cool video masterpiece. Then, it helps you optimize and save the video in a file format that will work on your site or on YouTube.

Do you already have some fabulous videos but they are too long? Maybe you want to create a video collage?

Do you just need inspiration?

Take tutorials on what makes a great online video and get inspired by others.

Want to add YouTube video to a Convio page or donation form?

Use the Convio Component menu in the WYSIWYG. Select Extensions. Select YouTube video. Find your video on YouTube and click/drag it to the grey box. Click insert. Preview to test.

Want to add video to an email?

Sorry, you can't. But, you can take a screenshot of your YouTube video online, crop it, and then use that static image in your email message. Your users will recognize the YouTube video play button over top of your video image and click to play it. But, they'll actually be taken to a page or donation form built in Convio where the video will play properly.

Post your awesome examples here so we can see them!

  • Want to add video to an email?

I've seen a few people use animated GIFs for the video preview image. This way the video's thumbnail as some movement, and makes it more tempting to click.

My understanding is that, while not all email clients support animated GIFs (Microsoft) at least they they still display as a static image.
