Split Fund Pledge Installments

Options

I have been experiencing some trouble with the standard reports when it comes to pledges that have split fund allocations and/or varying payment amounts over the lifetime of the pledge. I was wondering if anyone with similar pledges had a solution or had submitted to the ideas banks.

We are a university and one example is as follow: we have a 4-year pledge for a program that includes a gift-supported student scholarship, student stipends, staff funding, and a portion for unrestricted. For purposes of recognizing largest gift, we want to keep the pledge as one entry. The stipends are only issued in years 1-3 of the program so the final pledge payment is lower than the others. RE splits the installment allocations proportionally between the funds. When running the cash flow report, the lower last payment throws off the proportion. So while the total installment amount is correct, the fund splits are off and need to be manually adjusted in the report output.

It seems like a possible solution would be to request the ability to define the split gift fund and amounts for each payment at the installment level. Any thoughts?

Yes, there are known issues with several of the reports when it comes to split gifts. Every payments is applied proportionally when generating some reports.

It's certainly worth a shot to request your idea. I would vote for it. :)

RE lacks ability to do reporting on multiple one-to-many relationship:

1 pledge can have multiple installments
1 pledge can have multiple splits of CFAP (campaign, fund, appeal, package)

there is no pledge recording method to indicate how much of an installment is for which CFAP split, which is why the report you mention can only do “even” split.

If you are NOT hosted by Blackbaud and is capable of running SQL querying directly the RE database tables
    OR
if you are hosted by Blackbaud and is using RE NXT, and that you are capable of utilizing SKY API

then you will have “all” needed data to create a custom report that can report on payment made to the pledge (which installment of the pledge), and based on the payment's CFAP to calculate what CFAP is still due (what hasn't been paid will still need to be “evenly” split, but at least what CFAP has been paid can be reduced from balance unpaid).

This is NOT an easy report to create, and even a seasoned SKY API or SQL query user will have difficulty.

  • @Alex Wong You guess it! We are cloud-hosted and I have been tinkering with a Power Automate Flow to generate our pledge reminders. It's a small subset of our pledges, so I think I will suppress them from the flow for now.
