PDF tax receipt templates

Options

Under Gift receipting, PDF receipt templates, I only have 3 template options - English, French, and English/French. On any of these, when I go to edit, I can only modify certain features (logo, signatory name, thank you message, etc.) We would like to modify the content of the receipt to display the gift amount. Is there anyway to do this?

  • @Nicole Bishop I'll have to defer to the other Canadians here since this functionality is specific to CA, but is this knowledgebase what you're trying to use? How to create PDF copies of eReceipts sent from RENXT webview (Canadian) (blackbaud.com)

    It seems very unusual that the Gift Amount is not included in a receipt. Does it include the Receipt Amount only?

  • @Christine Robertson

    Unfortunately it doesn't show the receipt amount either. Along with the donors name and address and our registration number, this is the only information displayed.

    Might want to reach out to support for this. Not being able to show “amount” on a tax receipt makes no sense regardless of country.

  • @Nicole Bishop I wonder if that is because the gift type is “Gift in Kind”? Does it show those fields if the type is Cash/One Time gift?

    @Christine Robertson:

    Great point. And I know a lot of organizations do not fill in the value for GIK.

    Is there an amount / value on the gift?

  • @Alex Wong Yeah - gift amount and gift date have always been consistent for receipts with any client in any country I've worked with. I just don't have access to a Canadian database at the moment, so I can't do any testing on this specific functionality to see if it's due to the gift being shown being a GIK.

  • @Nicole Bishop I am struggling with this same issue and wondering if you ever got an answer? I cannot find a way to create a custom PDF template NOR to edit the current default PDF template. I have just started listing the amount in the “comment” section of all in-kind gifts, so I can at least have the gift amount show up somewhere! ALL of our in-kind donors expect a receipt with a gift value on it. Please let me know if you have gotten further information on this! Thank you!!

  • Hi @Marilyn Lee, Unfortunately no. I was informed by the blackbaud team that there is no way to change the receipt template… I ended up doing the same thing as you by adding the amount value to the comment section below.

    @Nicole Bishop I would guess as others thought might be the issue is that it is a GIK. While many donors like to see a value for their GIK it is not required. In fact in IRS publication 1771 acknowledgement requirements reads:
    3. a description (but not the fair market value) of any contribution of property

    There is also in publication 526.

    Does Canada require one to value a GIK?

  • @Nicole Bishop Got it - thanks for the reply!
