Mobile wallets, Blackbaud checkout and standard donation forms

Options

Hi Community,

We are about to embark on redesigning our Luminate donation forms and we are weighing whether to use Blackbaud Express Checkout or the standard ‘responsive’ forms.

We would like the forms to include mobile wallet options and be fully responsive, but the standard forms do not support mobile wallet options. Blackbaud Express Checkout also has limitations, like the lack of gift or honorary donations. We may not have the budget to do both and we’d like to hear what others are using. And examples would be super helpful as well.

And if anyone knows of any updates to donation forms that are planned, that info would also be helpful.

@Gwendolyn Chambers Hi! We have some exciting announcements coming in the April 30 PUB about our plans for a new and improved checkout experience in Luminate Online. I don't have all the details to share at this time, but good things are coming.

Looking forward to hearing about it!

Upcoming announcements notwithstanding, a common solution is to make a normal donation form and offer a button that jumps over to an extremely simple page containing the S1300 tag. It'll be a little bit ugly if you're not able to spend much time customizing the simple mobile page, but it at least gives you a way to get your donors the option.

Barring that, the Donation2 form is light years ahead of the features in mobile. If you need those features it could be a major drawback. At the same time, simple forms absolutely outperform complicated ones.

In my org's experience, moving ApplePay from a simple secondary page into a main feature of the form did increase how many people used it, and did not increase how many Venmo gifts we've gotten. But it'd be absolutely wild if there's ever been someone who refused to donate as a matter of principal because it was too much work to enter a credit card (most have that autocompleted by the browser anyway). The killer app for BBCheckout is that it forces ya to have a page that fits on one screen instead of having 30 fields to fill out.

One other consideration, TeamRaiser. You can't use BBcheckout to pay for registrations and gifts during registration. If that's in play in your org and you can only invest into one form, it has to be the Donation2/traditional one.
