How can I rank constituents based on their interactions on my site?

Options

You can start using engagement factors to rank constituents by creating a Web Site Engagement Segmentation task. This task allows you to rank and segment constituents based on interactions with the web site. Each interaction type gets a weight of 0-10 that you can set. You can also limit interactions over a specific time period. You can then run this task automatically once a day or once a week.

To create the task, go to Data Management -> Tasks and choose the Task List tab. Choose "Create new task" and then select the Web Site Engagement Segmentation task. From here, define as many Engagement Factors as you would like with the Interaction Types and Weights of those types. Make the task active, choose how often you'd like it to run, and save it.

If you'd like to create a query for this, the engagement factors are found under the Field Type: Transaction information. You can query based on whether a constituent's engagement factor is greater than, less than, equal to a certain factor #, etc.

You can then use the query to create and/or populate groups and mail merges.

If you do not have any "Engagement Factor..." fields, contact Support.  Either the fiels are not on or they have been renamed. Support can also rename the fields if you so desire.

You can also rank constituents via email which is documented here.

  • As for the weighting, what is a 1 vs. a 10?  High vs. low or low vs. high?

  • The weighting is a number - 10 would be highest.  It depends what "weight" you want to give to the certain type of activity.  The use of this weight in an engagement factor field means that you can query on that value - i.e. "give me people whose "Engagement Factor 3" is equal to or greater than 5," for example.

Giving certain activities different weights would be pretty sophisticated - for example, if opening an email counts for 1, but clicking a link counts for 3 - since clicking a link indicates more interest, while opening but not clicking means they probably deleted the email without doing anything.

FYI - if you use Engagement Factors, you can have Convio Support rename them for you - so instead of "Engagement Factor 3" you can name it "Core Email Activists" or what have you.
