How to update a field to be blank?

Options

We had a mysterious question within our RegSurvey that made everyone who registered have the word "other" as their title. It wasn't a function of the title field itself, but happened no matter what title people chose, even if they chose nothing.

So I'm fixing these - going back and assigning Mr. or Ms. to the ones I can easily identify, but for all others I'd like the title field to be empty.

Convio's help file for import/export says this:

*+Important: When an upload contains no data for a field, the system will never blank out fields that already contain data in your Constituent360 records. For example, if you do not include the HOME_PHONE field in your upload and you are updating a record that already includes a phone number, that phone number will remain in the Cons360 record. The same is true if you include the HOME_PHONE field in your upload but it contains no data. But surely there must be some code that would blank the field out, right? Something to say "make this field = null"?

thanks for any help you can provide,

Laura

  • Hi Laura,

I assume you are using the new Custom Constituent Import tool in Convio. I wonder if you have you tried using the data decision option to "Overwrite all fields with values from the import file" in Step 4 of creating a Custom Constituent Import and if this might work for you?

    Thanks!

Hi Kevin - Yes, the data decision option you describe should work to overwrite a field as blank, but it does not. Support has reported this as bug #34945 to the engineers, apparently. I'll update this post if it gets resolved, but for now, no one seems to have any way to resolve this other than manually deleting the information in each record.

    Thanks,

To let you know I think this has been resolved in the Whitney release. If you take a look at the feature summary for the release I think you will find a note about this feature being available.
