Usage Question: How to preview emails with conditional content

Options

Howdy,

Curious about the best way to preview email messages with conditional content - so that you can see how the email looks with all combinations of conditions in place - before sending.

If we only used one or two conditions, then we would just set up a couple of accounts for review (and bob would be our uncles), but we often will send emails with 50 or more possible combinations of conditions.

If you have this same setup, please reply and let us know how you have worked around the lack of preview capability for email in Convio. And, hey, if you work for Convio and have some suggestions, we would love to hear those as well!

Best,

Virginia

  • Nope-No way to preview with all the correct conditionals you've set up!

I've been struggling with this since we started with Convio.

And it doesn't seem to get any better---no better responses or suggestions of how to preview exactly what your constituents will see.

Wow, that stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You mean there really is NO way to preview emails with conditional content. Please, somebody tell me that this issue has been addressed by Convio since this query was first posted in 2008.

  • Hi Virginia --

The only way to see conditional content in your email is to set up a review list and send to them. It's like sending a real email and shows all conditional content. You should set up a couple test accounts in your system with different addresses. Send the email to your Review List and you'll see the different conditionals pull through for the different email accounts.

The review list is Step 6 on your Process Navigator.

Let me know if you have any further questions - Kelly

You can find instructions about creating a Reviewer List in the help files:

In addition to viewing conditional content, a Reviewer List allows you to view the personalization (i.e. First Name, and so on).

    Sally--

Thanks. I found this in Convio instructions and tried it yesterday. However, the people on our reviewer list who DID donate (and, hence, should have gotten a different message than the people who didn't donate) did not receive the custom language. So now I'm stuck.

    Thanks,

Hi Margaret - in that case, I would recommend submitting this to Support and including details about the email addresses of the people who donated, which message it was, and pointing out in the message where your conditional content is located so Support can troubleshoot. If it's a configuration error they can tell you how to correct that, and if it's a bug they can take appropriate steps to report the bug to be fixed and also suggest a workaround for the meanwhile. (Variants are a good workaround if your conditional is simple, i.e. donated or did not donate.)

Variants would be great! Would you please send me the documentation for how to create them?

    Thanks.

    Here you go:

Variants are canonically used for A/B testing, but you can use them in this manner as well.
