How does "event affiliate tag" work?

Options

I very much need a feature that would restrict anyone from viewing a certain event unless they have a promo code, which would be mailed to them. (This is a free event, but only open to those who have received the invite, and we want them to rsvp so we can plan around the expected # of attendees.) The "Event Affiliate Tag" under "Configure Additional Information" seems to say that's what it's for: "Restricts view of this event to the specific set of people who know this tag". But I when I tried setting that tag, the event RSVP page wasn't in any way restricted from view. I was hoping I'd have to enter the code into a field. Am I just misunderstanding what this thing is for?

  • The affiliate tag is used to pre-filter the events that appear on a specific calendar, and it can be used exposed to constituents viewing a caledar to filter the events for themselves, if the affiliate tag is some value meaningful to your constituents. The tag doesn't indicate anything about the constituent, however. You could only expose an event to a certain group of cosntituetns by placing a security category on the event and creating a group of constituents with permissions to see content with that security category.

  • Did you ever figure out how to actually restrict access by just putting in a code? I thought the same thing about the event affiliate tag and realized that was not what I wanted because the people who will be accessing the information are not already in Convio.

    Thanks!

What if you mailed a link to a survey instead?

A visitor filling out a survey can be added to a Group. That group could then give your constituent access to your protected pages.

That survey could be nothing more than a caption, the Constituent Registration Info and a submit button. If they are already Cons and have remember me on, then even the registration section would be hidden.
