Can we have two e-mail addresses for the same member id#?

It doesn't happen often, but occassionally a constituent will have two different email addresses, but is identified in our offline system with the same member id. Is it feasible to so this in convio?

  • There is a "Secondary Email" field that is available for each online constituent. When sending an email message to the primary email address it is possible to configure it so that the secondary email address is copied. The functionality does not allow you, however, to choose to send to the secondary email address instead of the primary one. If this secondary email field is not currently enabled for your online constituents and you would like it to be, simply make the request in a support ticket or inform your account manager.

    It is technically possible but not desirable to have multiple records in Convio with the same Member ID. The Convio Member ID field is intended to hold the unique offline identifier (from the master donor database) of the constituent record; we thus want Member ID to be unique in Convio to preserve a 1-to-1 relationship between the online and offline records. Custom datasyncs and product operations like the Group Assignment Upload make use of Member ID, and when they rely on Member ID to make a record match, they will throw an error when they find duplicate Member IDs in Convio. Some clients do have custom datasyncs that tolerate duplicate Member IDs but only because they are holding our unique Convio Cons ID in their offline database as an alternate ID for each of their records and using that field to match records.
