Using Donation Forms to take Event Registrations

Has anyone tried using a donation form in order to process event registration money? If so, does it work well, and can someone send me a link so that we can look at how it works? We can't afford to do the events module, but would love to take reservations/payments online for our upcoming gala event. Thanks!

Hi Roberta,

I did something like this at Conservation International. Here is an example:

Basically, we created a landing page with information about the event on the website with a link to a donation form. Click the link to purchase tickets to the event and you can see how the donation form is set up. The giving levels are set up to represent various ticket options. While using donation forms in this way doesn't offer ALL ticketing options, most donors were able to purchase tickets online (only very large donors needed to call in with their registration information). One thing that I think is especially important to include is a phone number in case a donor doesn't see the ticketing option they want.

Anyone else seen this done successfully?

Roberta:

Have you tried using the ecommerce section of Convio to sell tickets? We had to pay Convio to configure the ecommerce area to work becuase of all the information we needed having to do with Table Captains etc... but without that level of detail it seemed like it would not be such a complicated project.
