I'm pretty sure that is a setting in the user options.

I know you can set text color for some things, but I'm not aware of a color setting for general record info. I just skimmed thru the settings and missed if it's there.

In Tools > User Options > Color > Legends you can set colors for different types of gifts, addresses, relationships, participants, notepad, action and events. (Really easy and helps with differentiating info)

Any chance that the record you shared is a participant record and that setting is to a gray? Are all your records gray vs. black? If so, I'd ask support.

Yes, it seems like those fields are Read Only if they are greyed out.

  • Yes, grey means unable to be edited. Usually, that has to do with user rights under Security. If you are signed in as Supervisor, those fields should not be grey…?

  • Grey has always been read only, there are certain navigation pathways through a record that will only allow read only - and if you want to edit you have to go directly to that record. Specifically this happens if you open a spouse that has their own constituent record or if you open an Org record on the Relationship tab and the org has their own constituent record. It is a signal/indicator to you that there is a constituent record.

You can change text colors under tools for many areas of RE. I personally utilize that option to have different colors for different gift types and for different relationships.

  • Grey text is for disabled (read only) fields. The grey text (and grey dropdown arrows) are defined by Windows color settings for disabled items, unfortunately they can't be changed in Windows 10+ or if your environment is hosted.
