Query to find continuous givers e.g. 5, 10 or 20 yrs

Options
I'd like to create an anniversary pack for regular givers who have given continuously for 5, 10 or 20 years but am having difficulty working out how to put together the query that will give results for those who have always given during that period.

A date query supplies those who have given during that time, but not necessarily continuously.

Any help or suggestions welcomed!

  • Thank you JoAnn, I'll give that a try.
  • When we first created our stewardship program for loyal donors, I was using the consecutive years report to determine the number of years giving.

Now, I do something a little more complicated, as I feel like the information we are looking for can be a little more nuanced. For example, we might choose to give credit to someone who gave in response to a year-end campaign, but whose gift arrived just after the fiscal year ended. Additionally, if someone is a 20+ year donor, but missed giving in 2003, I probably would highlight them for the Donor Stewardship Manager to determine if they think that person should go on the donor list for the larger year category (20+ years) instead of the lower year category (15+ years) because we do want to be as inclusive as possible with stewardship.

Additionally, we have split our spouses and set up donations to automatically soft-credit to spouse, so this added an additional wrinkle to this problem

So, I have set up a head-of-household export that starts with a query of this fiscal year's donor and then shows their number of gifts (including soft-credited) by campaign/fund/appeal broken out by fiscal year. I export to excel and then have a formula set up to count the number of years with applicable gifts.

Our donor stewardship manager reviews the list and gives me back a list for import. I add an attribute for our loyal donor group with the description being a selection table of 5+, 10+, 15+ years, etc. We review these now annually using the same export and review process and I import notes from the manager to the attribute comments with her indications of how many years within the category. I have found this is the best way to ensure that everyone we want is on the list.

I hope this makes sense. It is a little convoluted.
  • Thank you Jahna - I don't have that much experience with reports so yes, your version does sound complicated to me, but I'm sure your post will be useful to me as I become more familiar with using the basic report.

    Take care,

    Anne

  • I am wondering if you might share your query that you use to get this information for those who have missed a year but may otherwise be consistent donors.

  • RE's consecutive givers report does just that - it finds continuous givers. If you want to find out how many years a donor has given, your constituent query has to pull all gifts from the inception of your data for all donors, then you have to export it by year using gift summary information for each year, then you have to use excel to add up the years. It's complicated, but it works. If you want more information, shoot me a message and I'll share my query/export with you.
  • @Elizabeth Rich Hello Elizabeth! I am sending you a message!
