Is there a way to globally delete a phone or address record based on the Import ID?

Options

I'm trying to find a way to remove duplicate phone and address entries on a constituent's record without manually going through and deleting the duplicate phone and/or address on each constituent record. I was trying to find a way by exporting the phone and address import ID, but I'm not seeing a global option to remove these. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can accomplish this?

Thanks!

  • I know there's a way to do the duplicate phones, but I think not for addresses. @Amy Dana can you ring in on this?

  • There's a plug-in called Alternate Address Deleter that I use for this. It deletes all addresses that have a particular type (as long as they are an alternate address and not the constituent's preferred one, hence the plug-in name).

I've created an address type of “DELETE” and then I do an import to update the type of all my unwanted addresses to “DELETE”, then I run the plug-in to remove all addresses with that type.

  • Thank you, Alan! I see that there's a version of the Alternate Address Deleter that works on RE 7.96 and higher. Does that include NXT?

  • Could you tell me what your process is for removing duplicate phone numbers? Thanks!

If you need to see your version of RE, in db view go to Help > About Raiser's Edge. Top line of the pop-up has your version. If you're using NXT I'm pretty sure you're at that version or higher.

  • We do this cleanup the way @Alan French described.

There is a Delete Phone plug in that works the same way. You need to set up a Delete phone type under config and tag the phone numbers you want to delete with that type.

The way I do the addresses - and I'd do the phone the same way - is export a list of addresses using the Import tool. This will give you the con id, addresses import ID and address type, plus address lines.

Once I have all this in excel I sort by con id, preferred, then address lines and go through the file changing the type to Delete for the ones I want deleted.

I import the file back into RE and use the Alternative Address Deleter plug in to get rid of the Delete address types.

All the plug ins are in the database view only as far as I know.
