Blackbaud Opt Back In Email Process & Blacklisted Emails

Options

Hello, With leadership transitions people choose to opt-in and out of our emails. Blackbaud has the unblockme process for blacklisted/spam emails, which hasn't proven to be effective, and the opt-in process requires submitting a ticket through chat support and forwarding a saved document of the email the constituent sent us with consent to opt back in. Is this the only process? Is there a better way?

  • Which Blackbaud product are you using?

  • Sorry I cant help you but I am very interested in the answer. I have a similar issue that even though I have updated solicit codes and consents to opt back in, they are still being automatically excluded from my emails. I didn't know you could ask Blackbaud chat to sort this, but it does not seem like a practical solution. We tell all our supporters that they can change their mind at anytime aligning with GDPR in making consent easy.

  • I agree it is a long process and not a good solution. We receive verbal consent to receive emails yet we have to ask them to send us an email asking to have BB remove them from the opt-out list. It is a pain in the rear and a long process.
  • We are using RE/NXT to send most of our emails.

  • I'm not sure if it is a better way, but we “hide” the automated “unsubscribe" link (basically setting the link text to the same colour as the background), and substitute our own “email us to unsubscribe" link - that way we can mark people with a solicit code/consent code, and reverse it if they subsequently opt-in to the email list again. Not ideal, but it works for us.

Apparently I am completely clueless on this process. Granted, I don't send the emails from NXT but I had no idea of this. Is this how/why some of our constituents have the “requests no email” marked on their record with no documentation as to how it appeared? Their solution is actually to forward an email to them from the constituent requesting to opt in? Seems quite antiquated.

  • What form do you use to track your own opt-outs?

  • Hi Rachel - we provide a link within emails for alumni to send an email to us with their request to unsubscribe (the unsubscribes are manually entered into the consent module). We also have a tick box on our "stay in touch/update your details" form on our alumni website (these responses are processed using ImportOmatic).

    Hope that makes sense

    Best wishes

    Jon

  • I had no idea that this was what you have to do reverse an unsubscribe. Do you have the info or a link on how to contact BB about opt back in ? Thanks so much.

It is important to note that this process applies to folks who are opting out of emails sent via Webview of RENXT. If folks have opted out through an email sent via OLX, there is a different process and they have to “resubuscribe” through a form you would set up in OLX and then have hosted on your website somewhere. You then need to go into OLX and process those who have subscribed via that form.

Some helpful KB solutions related to OLX opt outs:

Just a note: I believe it also applies to those unsubscribing from an email sent thru NetCommunity. Seems to be experience described to me by other staff member who deals with it.
