We don't use any of the canned reports in database view, although we often use export to obtain information to report on. We love the reports and dashboards in web view and have set up numerous ones. When I first started using them in web view I compared them to data obtained from the database view in order to determine that my reports in web view were correct. Anything that didn't match was determined to be a user problem and not a problem with web view. I still occasionally compare the data from both view to make sure that all of my reports are pulling correct information - and they are.

  • It depends on the type of report and who needs the information. We are working to set up dashboards in webview for those who use it consistently, but there are some reports we pull daily/weekly/monthly from database view. Personally, I'm more comfortable with pulling reports from database view, but I know enough to pull basic information in webview.

I do most of my reports in Database view - exports, custom reports, and canned reports. However if can provide the information by creating a list in webview I will do that.

Not so much a preference, since it all has to do with which fields are available in the webview reporting. I would love to do more in webview but the functionality just isn't there for robust reporting.

I think it may also take some time to convert some fundraising staff to new reports. They will need to use webview and the “report” might look different even though it shows the same information that you may create for them in a spreadsheet or PDF. It might also force a change in your business processes. These are all moves in the right direction, but can be difficult to make those changes.

I have just built half a dozen or so dashboards/reports in NXT in the last week - and wonder why I have waited so long (side note - I just took a class last month on them so that could be why; I didn't really know anything about them). These are great for many questions I hear from people; the only thing I do not like about them is they're not necessarily current since they could take a few hours to update.

I do use some reports in database view, though, for reconciling with Finance since our process is very manual; our systems do not interact at all. I actually want to explore more reports in DB view, as I know there are things there I don't even know about yet (don't know what you don't know). They can be frustrating since you cannot manipulate the output much but I am not to the point of being able to take time to learn Crystal yet.

  • I prefer to do a fairly straight forward reports that I perform on a weekly basis via NXT/webview and if I need something more granular or hefty I work in database view to drill down a bit more.

Miki, you've peaked my interest! I don't really use reports in NXT. Which reports did you build?
