Why Can't I see my Audience in e-mails and why cannot I not add a group?

I have added groups that do not display on the designated list. When I try to add the group, it tells me the group is already on the target list, and will not let me add it. However, it never displays on the appropriate link. I also have lost messages that I have saved to a campaign. I cannot tell what is there and what isn't.
