Missing Wealth Ratings

Options
Hello, Community! I thought I would try picking your brains here since I cannot get an answer in my open case.

We have over 16,000 individual constituents in our database but over 6,000 of them are missing the basic wealth rating. These are active, non-deceased people with valid United States addresses. I have been working for almost two months with various people to try and determine what needs done to prompt these records to update and give a wealth rating.

I am sure a handful will not have anything yet since they are likely recent graduates from our high school. However, that does not explain the vast majority. On a whim I checked and while I have a rating my husband does not. Considering most of our holdings are joint that makes no sense to me. I was added as a constituent just last year, though, while my husband was in the system earlier. I am wondering if many of those missing ratings are ones entered while we were using eTap before the migration last year to RE.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to jumpstart the system to get ratings for those missing them? In talking with Blackbaud, I have tried changing the date of the last wealth analytic rating (which shows as blank), as well as adding the country to pull in the address. Nothing is prompting updates. I will try just about anything at this point! We are looking at possibly adding further wealth analytic options but I want to get this updated.

Thank you, all!

From what I've noticed, the system creates those ratings upon the creation of the record (assuming you are looking at the NXT ratings, and not some other ratings). From what I've seen, I don't know of a way to have those records rescanned and have those ratings appended.

I think it would be a safe assumption that the 6,000 are older records, and may have existed before the move to NXT.

But it is interesting that if you were on eTap, that all of the records that you imported or converted didn't get rated during the conversion.

One trick I have heard that can help you rescan is to enter a duplicate record. Newly entered records are supposed to be screened overnight, so it should get ratings. Then merge the ratings into your existing record and delete the newly added one.

I can't say if the "old" record will be rescanned in a year, but I feel like it should be. Obviously you can't do that for 6000 records, but if there are some with other high ratings, or some that you suspect would have good ratings, it might be worth a shot. You could always export those and then use that file to do an import so it would be more efficient.

No one has mentioned anything about name formats so far. Faith Murray‍ this is something I will definitely review today to see how those missing them look.

Dariel Dixon‍ I believe many of these are older ones, although some other older ones have the ratings. It is completely baffling why some have the ratings and others don't.

Karen Diener‍ I may try this on a few that we expect a rating on, just to see, especially if the name thing isn't showing an issue.

Here's another question on the name part. Would having a nickname, or maybe their middle name as first name, throw off the processing of ratings? I don't know how eTap handled the various fields or if it had the option of a nickname, but many of our records have the preferred name as the first name, regardless of what the constituent's first name actually is. I'm correcting these as I can, but that's not really something one can do globally. I did get pointed to Knowledge Base 95490 and that helped a bit with understanding the names.

Faith Murray‍, any ideas? Or anyone else? THANK YOU!
  • Miki, this is not something I have checked with Support, but my instinct would be that, yes, Middle names and nicknames in the First Name field would throw off the matching process, as Blackbaud's services will be matching your donors with legal and public records that utilize your donors' legal first names. If it's possible, you might be better off keeping their true first name in that field, but adjusting the Addressee format to their nicknames in that area. Sounds like a job!

Faith Murray‍ getting the first names to truly reflect those is one of my biggest goals for our database. I hate that I can't just tackle the entire thing at once and clean up everything in one swoop, but it took a lot to get to where it is so I know it will be some work to get it to where it should be. ?

I have also learned, from going back and forth with Support, that apparently the options available in NXT Lists under Wealth Ratings can play a role in things. Hopefully that will help answer some additional questions today.

I did add a spouse last week as a Constituent, as I discovered their home was only in her name. Lo and behold, she now has a rating. Small steps! I still don't think it accurately reflects their true holdings, but it's at least something in the right direction!
  • If you have ResearchPoint, would requesting a wealth screening of a query of these records also return no results?

Marguerite Gravois‍ we do not have ResearchPoint. We have Raiser's Edge and NXT plus OLX and the Event module. That's about it. We are looking into further analytics but as of now we do not have anything additional.

    Faith Murray:
Miki Martin‍, when we first migrated to NXT a couple years ago, about 3/4 of our database was missing the NXT ratings. Through my interaction with BB Support, I learned that NXT will not screen anyone who has punctuation in their first or middle names. Many of the people in our system had an abbreviated middle initial ("Danny M. Smith") because we obviously thought it looked better in the addressee field that way. But apparently that kept BB's name-matching software from being able to match the individuals with their non-abbreviated public records. We fixed that, and after our one-year NXT anniversary, the system populated the missing wealth screenings.

Seriously?!? Is this true? Is Blackbaud suggesting that we go through and remove the period from middle initials? Do they have some documentation on this? I'd love to review a KB solution and then discuss with my team about how we want to handle this going forward. Thanks for any additional info you can provide!

@Carlene Johnson I really hope not but I'm thinking so. I haven't had the time to search for any KB articles. You should be able to do a query searching for, say MiddleName, that contains “.” to find those records with periods to start. Since your salutations can automatically add a period behind an initial you can still have that necessary period for various reasons.

I'd review the output of the query to make sure those records were all correct, then you could do an import to update the records with removed periods after correcting in Excel. Breaking the review into smaller sections would hopefully make it a bit easier and less daunting.

I'm actually signed up to take the RE: Imports course in a couple of weeks, which leads into a DBA course on imports and global clean-up, which I really need to know. I've learned a lot from the Community and Knowledgebase articles about imports and done some small ones for clean-up but anything new I can learn is helpful.

Hopefully all this helps! As for my initial question, I never got anywhere with Support. They ended up closing my case after telling me the ratings weren't included in our subscription, which I told them made no sense because I was only asking for the simple star ratings that I understand to be included in the subscription. ?
