How to add "Other Planned Gift" (Commercial annuitant beneficiary) from deceased donor

Options
We have just received notice that we are the beneficiary of several Commercial Insurance annuities that our now deceased donor owned. I have filled out the claim forms and are now awaiting the processing of the claims. When these gifts come in I am wondering how we should enter them. My first thought is to have a gift subtype called "Estate" which would be different than Bequest. This could cover other types of estate gifts that are not bequests - ie don't come through a will or trust. These would include, but are not limited to, being the beneficiary of: commercial insurance annuities, Retirement accounts; Donor advised funds etc.

We then would fill out the gift record with all the relevant information and mark it as realized. We would add the vehicle as other, and put the information we have under the miscellaneous information.

My question is: Does this seem like the right approach, or should we just put it in as vehicle and gift subtype bequest - and maybe put some info in the Miscellaneous notes section...

Of course this might be different if a live donor told us we would be the beneficiary of such a gift and we put this in as a pledge... but that is for a different time...
