Gift notifications

Options

We would like to have a notification each and every time a gift is made through our donation pages. I have verified that the donation notifications are activated by including a minimum gift amount and the e-mail addresses of those to be notified separated by commas. We also have our honor/memorial notification activated with the same e-mail addresses listed. Why doesn't this work?

  • Hi Rose,

    Gift notifications are something you can set at the campaign level for donations in exactly the way you describe.  Here are a couple caveats to keep in mind:

    1. Be sure to set the "Large Gift Amount" to something greater than zero.  To receive notifications for all gifts that come through, you should set this amount to $1 (not $0).
    2. Be sure to also set the "Special Email Notifications" to a notification amount of $1 or greater as well.
    3. You'll need to update these values for each donation campaign at the campaign level.  There's a tab in the Convio donations application called "General Configurations" - unfortunately this global setting doesn't work and can cause confusion.  Some time ago (~2 years), Convio updated the way these settings are managed so that each campaign can have a separate set of notifications (i.e. notifications on a per-campaign basis).  To manage this, you should click on "Donation Management" in the Convio Admin interface, then click "edit" for the campaign in question.  On step 3 of the following screen, "Specify Groups and NotificationsThis is the current page.", you can add notification settings at the campaign level.  If you want to add notifications for all gifts coming in, you'll need to update the gift notification settings for each campaign in your list.

    Second, we received a gift notification after making another donation. The e-mail provided limited information. We would like to customize the information that is sent in the notifications. How do we do that?

    Hi Rose,

    The "General Configurations" tab is still there because it still applies to donation forms that were created prior to the most recent updates.  I do expect that eventually that section will be removed entirely, but for right now it's still there for customers who created their donation forms prior to the change.  You'll see a reference on the page to the fact that the settings only apply to donations created in "Donations Classic".  Those are older Convio donation forms (prior to the change).  All of your donation forms and campaigns are "2.0" donation forms, not "classic" forms.  This is true for all Go! clients.

    Unfortunately, it isn't possible to modify the information that you receive in the gift notification.  That is a system-generated email message which cannot be reformatted or changed.

    However, the donor autoresponder has all of this information. The e-mail notification to staff should include the information if the client wants it. Prior to switching to Convio, our staff notifications had most of the information provided in Convio's donor autoresponder.

    How do we submit a request to Convio to upgrade this area of service?

    Several other clients have been interested in this same change to the way the donation notifications work.  You can always submit an online support case with a description of the feature or change you'd like made to the Convio product.  This gets added to our list of "Feature Requests" which influences our future product develoment and enhancements.

    In this case, I've added your interest in this improvement to two existing Feature Requests that we're tracking:  FR-17469 and FR-11727.  If you were to speak to Convio's support personnel or a member of the Convio development team about this product change, you can reference those Feature Request numbers.
