Automated Recurring Gifts RENXT--Failed Transactions

Is there a way to trigger a new attempt at processing an automated recurring gift transaction if the current transaction failed? For example, an automated recurring gift that processes on 22nd of each month would not be scheduled to rerun until the 22nd of the following month. However, if a transaction failed to process, and you reach out to the donor for updated card information, and they want to make up for the failed payment, could you then rerun the recurring transaction to collect the recurring gift that failed days earlier rather than having to wait until the next transaction the following month, and thereby missing a month's donation.


This is unrelated to the automatic retries set up in the recurring gift settings. These are transactions that were Hard Rejects and they are unable to retry. This would be an attempt at reprocessing once the issue with the card has been cleared up by the donor.

    Hi Keith Wilson‍ - Based on my understanding of the automated recurring gift process in NXT... someone please correct me if I am wrong... you will need to create a new recurring gift record in order to update the constituent's cc information.  When you do so, you should be able to indicate that in addition to their giving frequency/schedule you would like a gift to be processed "today".

    Hi Austen Brown‍, thank you for your reply. With the Automated Recurring Credit Cards you can update card information without having to re-enter or even alter the Recurring Gift schedule. The "missing piece" is being able to charge the gift "today". That was the experience I had last week when a recurring transaction failed. My donor called to update his card information, so I updated the card, but was unable to process a single gift to make up for his missed recurring transaction. The donor did go back online and make a one-time donation, but it would have been a lot easier if we were able to re-process the missed donation.

    Keith Wilson‍ - Thanks for the response! I'm happy to see you do not have to start over to update cc info! I think you make a great point about this needing to be apart of the process.  If you haven't already, visit the RE-NXT Idea Bank and add this idea.  Let me know what the idea is titled, and I'll all go vote for it.
