adding dynamic claim codes to eCommerce auto-responders

Options

We are considering a partnership with a digital downloads vendor that would allow us to add digital audio files to our eCommerce tool. However, the deal wouldn't allow us to store the digital audio files on Convio (due to licensing issues). Instead, we'd need to send each purshaser a unique claim code and they would need to go to vendor's website and enter their claim code to download their digital audio file. The vendor would supply us with a list of unique claim codes to send to each purchaser.

The question is, how do we use Convio to deliver these unique claim codes to each purchaser?

Best Case:

We configure the eCommerce tool to deliver the unique claim code via the auto-responder email each person receives after purchasing that specific item. This would require us to be able to upload these codes to that particular item in eCommerce. Is this possibe?

Less Good Option:

We manually import the claim codes into custom fields of just those people that purchased that item. Send them manually an email with their claim codes inserted as a custom field. This is combersome though for obvious reasons.

Any way to achieve the "best case"?

  • Ben,

Could you ask your digital download vendor if they offer a client-side API for getting claim codes? (The "client-side" part is important, as it is not possible to make server-side requests in Convio.) If so, I can think of a way this could be done. There's really no way to store the claim codes in Ecommerce, so you'd need some way on the thank you page to make a request to the vendor and get back a claim code.

Noah, thanks for the response. I'll check on that. Even if they could support this, if we also wanted to get this claim code into the auto-responder email, we couldn't do that, right?

That's right -- there'd be no way to include the claim code in the autoresponder.
