Creating a survey for the screen readers

Options

We need urgent help ensuring that an online survey is accessible for the visually impaired via screen readers.  We use CMS so it could be the COM survey tool or the CMS survey tool.  Does anyone out there have experience with this?  Is one tool better than the other for this?  Is there any additional coding we will need to do to optimize the experience?

  • Alison,

I would recommend using CMS for such a survey, as you can fully control HTML code in a CMS page. CRM Survey gives you page that has preset HTML values that cannot be altered. Note: all CMS forms by default are submitted to a CMS database and results can be downloaded in CSV format by clicking on Web From tab on page's status page. If you would like the results of your survey to go into CRM database, then I would suggest creating a survey in CRM, then copying HTML into a CMS page, ammending the code as necessary for screen-reader compatibity.

Either way you choose to go, I would strongly recommend testing the form with a screen-reader before publication to ensure that the form works as expected.

I've found the following page that you might find helpful for this project.

  • Thanks to Noah and Elizabeth we were able to create a screen-reader friendly alternative vote form that seems to be working.
