Redirecting to new event

Is there a best practice when transitioning from an event that is closing into the next years event? From a search engine (and participant bookmark) perspective we'd like to send traffic destined for the previous events URL to the new events URL. My initial thought was to use redirect code in the page body but that did not work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I was just getting around to doing the same thing via a JS redirect in the old PageWrapper.

    Search Engine spiders will ignore JS, so it won't redirect them - but I think it should work for visitors. What didn't work for you?
