Education Relationship of "College" / "University"

Aloha All,

I am looking for the best, most efficient way of plotting a relationship of education; specifically universtiy relation. Here's what we are trying to do:

We are a 6-12 day school, and our Alumni director would like the ability to invite recently graduated alumni to alumni events happening in their area. Currently we list the university name as an education relationship on the constituent record. Within the education relationship, where would be the best place to keep an address or state or region information? I'm thinking an education relationship attribute but would like to see what other's are doing. Perhaps I need to be going in a different direction entirely?

I've done this before using the relationship notes, which was inconsistent and impossible to query. We use campus code to record the federal school code, and then you can build an org record for the college using the school code as their ID, constituency of higher ed, and record addresses there. Then you can query on higher ed constituents by their state, city or region, and query on alum with education campus code specific to a college.

if you are not using the Campus field for anything, I would suggest putting the location there. Or if you are using it, consider what info you are putting and if you can add/drop info the work for you.

Christine, This is an interesting suggestion, I hadn't thought about the campus location field. Would you use it as a region spcific (Pacific Northwest, South, New England etc) or should it be the state name? I'm thinking since it's not a drop down, this would be difficult to have consistancy in naming the regions. How would international schools be handled; should it be country code description?

We currently use an education attribute to track campus and had plans to begin using the campus field to track the campus attended. However, the goal is to use the filtering function in NXT to create segmented email lists, and neither of these options are available to filter in NXT. I'm now considering creating separate school names for each campus so that we can utilize the filters in NXT. Does anyone using NXT have thoughts on using school names as the campus differentiation?

I use the Campus field in the Education Relationship and enter the City and State -- If you wanted, you could add the zip too then you could search or region that way. If not there then I would make it an Education Attribute on the Ed Relationship. by two cents.
