Any tricks to accomplishing a family registration participant type?

Options

We're trying to do a family participant type in which two adults get a reduced registration fee ($30) vs. if they were each to sign up as an individual participant ($20). Trying to preserve that both adults could fundraise (i.e. each get a participant center) and also giving more accurate numbers for participation metrics, what would be the best way to implement this? I am worried about using a discount code for fear of abuse, but it may be the only way. We also thought upsell, but then get into the issue of needing to ensure the second person agrees to the waiver and is able to fundraise. It almost seems we may need to do an autoresponder so when the first adult registers using the family participant type, they are e-mailed info to register the second adult. But if there are any other, better, options out there, would sure love to hear them.

Thanks much!

  • I get wants for a similiar thing as well, (not to mention wants for quantity price breaks in eCommerce.) For our Marathon TeamRaiser we give our runner association members and kids a price break.

    So what about something like...

    Individual Registration  $30.00

    Parent Registration $20.00

    Child Registration $10.00

...and rely on the participants to choose the correct option. Then the TeamRaiser coordinator later checks a report to make sure that everyone with that registration is indeed parent or a kid.

Not ideal. I'd love a nice way to fix that too.

What about a conditional in the autoresponder that sent just the Family Registrants the discount code for their family members? Seems like they would get that information too late. Especially with 'Register Another Family Member' turned on in the registration process. And as you worried, that code could get circulated.

Another option (that I can never sell anyone on) is to keep the same price, but offer your special registrations some free item or other benefit kind of like a premium after the fact. (Kids get a free shirt!) Then you just pull a report and fulfill the offer later in one go.

    Regards, Brian
