Decades Club

Options
We are wanting to recognize donors who have given regularly for 5,10.15,20 years etc. in a Decades Club. Any ideas on the best way to query this.

I use the consecutive donor report to find the donors, export the results and import them into an attribute. I'd be happy to send you a screen shot of how this looks. I'm at kstuhlfeier@spa.edu.
  • For our organization I just created queries last week with "first gift date" for the funds we were looking for at 20, 15, 10, 5, 2, 1 year intervals and made sure they had made a gift in the last 3 calendar years.  Our mission in this project is also to re-engage donors who have been with us a long time, but who may have fallen off the wagon recently.  We thought that sending to people who had not given in the last three years may have been "overkill" so we wanted to make sure that we were thanking those who had been active recently.

I think that Karen Stuhlfeier‍'s idea for consecutive year donors is better for your situation, but if you wanted to broaden things, or if someone else is looking for donor re-engagement ideas, I wanted to let you know what we were doing.
  • Lynne Yarnevich‍ depending on the parameters of your Decades club you may also be able to use the "Consecutive Years Giving" summary gift field in a Constituent query to find those people quickly.  You can customize what counts as a gift (by the normal gift summary filters) but I'm guessing it's counting up calendar year giving, not fiscal year giving.  I've found multiple places where Blackbaud seems to forget fundraising organizations often define a "year" differently than just January through December. ?

    Good luck!

Note to keep in mind - Raiser's Edge is very specific.  If your donor's gift arrived in January, but they usually give in December, then they will not be caught by the Consecutive Years report because they will have skipped a year.  If you are looking for the gift came in or it didn't, no exceptions nor wiggle room, then the Consecutive Years report is awesome!

I agree with Tom in my findings. You are able to utilize the Criteria tab to add gift summary information for each fiscal year that you wish to include. However, the output "Gift summary - Consecutive years giving" pulls in based on calendar year giving. At my organization, we are thinking there may be a way to change this business rule to have the output pull in based on fiscal years...

FYI that the Consecutive Years Report in Analytical Reports will allow you to use fiscal year.  Like pretty much all reports, you can then save a static query of the results and add back an attribute or whatever other coding might be necessary.
