email - embedding a video (not YouTube)

Options

Does anyone know how to embed a video in an email message? I know how to do it in pagebuilder, but when I tried to do it in

an email message it didn't work. What would be the best format/file type?

For short videos I would rather not use YouTube.

Also how do I link something like "Share this message on facebook." So that it posts on their facebook account as liking that message.

I made the mistake and just linked it to our facebook fan page, not what we wanted.

Thanks!!!!

  • The majority of email clients do not support embedded video, so it is not advisable to try to include a video directly in an Email. Instead, what Convio generally recommends is embedding the video in a PageBuilder page, and adding a screenshot that links to that video in your Email message.

I posted a document outlining how to add "Share on Facebook" and "Share on Twitter" links to Email messages at http://community.customer.convio.com/docs/DOC-2693. That process might be overkill if you want to do this just for a single message though. You can link to Facebook share like so:

    <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=]/site/MessageViewer?em_id=1234.0]]&t=]">Share on Facebook</a>

... where "1234.0" is the Email's id, and "Title you want to appear here" is, well, you know.

Could I use storybuilder rather than pagebuilder to avoid our page count going over our limit?

    Thank you!

I just read your document on facebook linking in emails, honestly it was all very foregin to me. Not sure how I can get to that point in my knowledge center, but one day I will. So for now I will use that link you provided.

Another question, that came about when I was reading that document. Different subject ... when I create source and subsource codes used at the end of a url could I use www.tinyurl.com to shorten the url or would you suggest a different site?

Thanks, that's all for now ...

TinyURL should work just fine! The only thing to keep in mind is that you can't use a url-shortening service with autologin links. Otherwise, should be no problems.

    Noah,

We ended up using flowplayer.org, that one of Convio's clients suggested and helped me with extensively. Then just uploaded, player and files to FTP site. Works good, still learning the program though. Nice to not have a limit of file size.
