Duplicate Constituent Management Tool

Options
I’m a little confused about the duplicate constituent management tool and was hoping someone could help. I've cleaned all the duplicates that appeared when I ran the tool this morning. However, when I go to the records and search, I still see come constituents that appear to be a duplicate but are not appearing when I run the duplicate constituent management tool. For example, I have two records for a John White, one with an address and one without, which I'm pretty sure are the same person. They should appear in the toop according to the criteria for identifying potential duplicates. Or am I missing something?

  • Jennifer Fitch‍ I wonder if they have previously been marked "not a duplicate" and that is why they aren't appearing in your search?  I'm not sure but that's the only thought I have.
  • Thanks, Jenny. That's a possibility. I am taking over the database from someone who recently left and perhaps she did this. I'm wondering if I can check which records have been marked as such.
  • Jennifer Fitch‍ I searched knowledgebase and nothing popped up. I want to say no but I would Chat with support to confirm that or possibly find out how to do this if it is possible.  I'd be interested to hear what you find out.
  • Discussion moved to Raiser's Edge forums. Thanks!

I agree with Jenny Stephens‍ that they were probably marked as "not duplicates" at some point.

This page also has more details about duplicate detection in NXT, including matching criteria.  I think you can do "one off" merges now too; you don't have to wait for records to show up in the list of duplicates, you can specifically select them.  It might still be in a waved rollout though.

  • I would guess that they were either marked as not a duplicate or when they were merged someone forgot to click the remove the source constituent box. I have done both of those things a few times myself. What I view as a duplicate one day, I may look at another day and feel like there isn't enough evidence to prove that they are true duplicates. You are only as good as the information you have.
