Has anyone successfully gotten an image or logo into an Online Express Thank You email?

Options
I see the article saying to just paste an image into the form in Online Express. The instructions are identical for the on-screen Thank You message and for the emailed Thank You message. But it doesn't work for me no matter what I try. I just get the actual url link appearing in the Thank You email, right where I was hoping to see my logo or an image. If the recipient clicks the link, they are taken to a page with the image - which is a complete fail. And, as noted in the article, Blackbaud offers no support in this matter. But if anyone has been successful, would you mind sharing how you did it? Did you use the OLX form? Did you use any particular spacing or special characters to get the URL recognized? I would appreciate anything you can share.  Thanks.

  • I was able to do it when I first set up our donation pages in the Fall of 2017, but for whatever reason, when I try to do it now for some new pages I had to set up it's not working. I know from the online instructions it says the image has to reside on your website somewhere already, and I believe the saved file has to also be in the NXT folder where you house your export/import files. I have met both of those requirements, but still cannot do it so something must have changed.

Would love if someone from BB can chime in on this as I could be incorrect in my thinking of how it is supposed to work.

    Thanks!
  • I'm new to OLX, but.... have you tried adding the image to your image library and then inserting it into the email from there?  That's how NetCommunity does it, so.....?  It's a guess, but see what happens if it you haven't tried it already.
  • I'm in the same boat - trying to change the thank you email a donor receives after making a donation on our website.  The thought that they have been receiving the same thing for multiple donations make me cringe!!!!   ?  I noticed that these posts are quite old.  Has anyone had any luck?  TIA!
  • I'm wondering as well. I have not tried it recently so not sure. Also, with regards to an image library--to my knowledge OLX does not have one. I used NetCommunity at my last employer and it was great to have the image library--so very helpful! I do hope that the new email set up in NXT provides that.
  • I found out late yesterday that the picture has to be on your website.  You right click on the picture to copy it then paste it where you need it in the Thank You email.  Hope this helps you!  :)  Good luck!

  • Thanks to all who have chimed in. I have tried all these suggestions but not had success. That's why I was looking for someone who had *actually* gotten it to work. Brandie - I've tried what you suggested but if you get it to work, could you please let us know what exact steps you followed?  Thanks!

I don't think this is possible.  Even if you were able to get the image from your website to work in OLX - does it appear in all email inboxes when the confirmation is sent? I, personally, would err on the side of caution and leave the image out.  If you want to see this change be made in future updates to OLX, you can either post an idea to the OLX Idea Bank or the RE-NXT Idea Bank
  • Thanks for the update, Chris. I would be eager to get access to the early adopter trial if that were possible. But in any case, I appreciate you shedding light on this. Thanks also to Austen - I totally agree with your philosophy of not doing things unless they are solid. I wouldn't want something going to donors that 'kinda/sorta' works.

If I get the chance to participate in the next call, I will be watching for any schedule about this capability. Thanks.
  • Okay, in February I could copy images and paste them into OLX Thank you emails. Now I can't ... GRRRRR! There's been no improvement or upgrade as promised Chris Martin. This is getting really old!!
  • June 2020 - I still cannot copy/paste or insert images into the "thank you" email that is sent. We are having to send individual thank-yous after each purchase so that the TY email isn't text-only which is outdated and unprofessional! BB please work on this issue!
  • Hi Erin Thompson‍, Annie Martin‍. This thread goes back to 2018 so it would have been super easy to miss a comment I posted in this thread a year or so ago. The short version is that we aren't planning on doing work in OLX to get around the Citrix constraint that's preventing the old "trick" of copying/pasting image links that used to work a while ago. The good news though is that donation forms in RENXT have first class support for including images of your choosing in the thank you emails.

    Thanks,

    Chris Martin

  • Thanks for the feedback Dawn Cox‍ and Aaron Heflich Shapiro‍. We definitely appreciate that RENXT donation forms don't yet meet your needs and we're working to expand their capabilities. Dawn Cox‍ boy oh boy do we wish adding support for new things was as simple as you describe. But unfortunately, choosing to invest our development time on one feature always means deferring other things. We don't always get the balance right, but we do try hard to make sure when we're making these tough prioritization choices, that we're always trying to deliver the most value to the most customers as possible.

Aaron Heflich Shapiro‍ would you be open to sharing your thoughts in a discovery call or two related to either tribute giving or friendly fund display names? You mentioned those two feature areas specifically and we're actively planning our approach to both in RENXT donation forms.

    Thanks!

  • Wait, are you saying that copying/pasting images in the email for OLX is now broken? Is this a bug? No wonder my images don't show up in the email message. Can you please verify?  I have the latest version of OLX. Server version 111 and plugin 112.
  • I thought that something had gone wrong, because I had been able to do so with copy/paste (and a prayer), but have not been successful lately.  I hope that they fix this soon, because the feedback on the pictures from our donors has been very positive.
  • Can you update to make it a WYSIWYG editor?

Or at least the ability to edit manual using html, that could be a reasonable solution.
  • Thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread, I'm a new user of online express and it's been really helpful to understand what's going on here. I would like Kenny's solution, to be able to edit the confirmation screen using html, that would give lots of flexibility.

One workaround I have tried is adding a background image to the css for the confirmation screen. If you want the image to appear in a specific place, calculate the size of the form and the position and create a jpeg with a white background (or your form background colour) and the image in the right place. It's not ideal, it's not particularly responsive, and of course there will be no alt text for screen readers, but it does work.

However I'd like my image to be a link, so yes please, html in the confirmation text editor would be great.
  • Any new info on this topic?  I am amazed by how Blackbaud continues to sell products that are partially functional...
  • Agreed!  I used to be able to make this work, but have discovered that donation pages and thank you emails that were working for years are no longer working.  Would appreciate if BB would address this important issue.
  • Hi Chris-

I just contacted support with this very issue on yesterday. Last year, BB shared this article as a solution and it worked perfectly https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/70256 . This year, the solution no longer works and I was told that Citrix is the culprit. Has this made it to your team's list of priorities? Thanks so much!
  • Would love to hear some good news on this one. Also for the confirmation screen, which if you're going to keep it the same size as the form ends up with white space that makes donors nervous something's gone wrong. We are currently trialling online express and this (along with a general lack of flexibility and custom fields) is one of the things putting us off.
  • Would love to get a current response to these issues. Unless you are planning on fixing it on both sides, or will be implementing usage of Gift attributes as well as some of the other functionality from the OLX side to NXT, fixing the image issue in NXT only is not acceptable. Until I am able to use attributes--at the very least--on the NXT side on donation forms, batch gift entry, receipts, etc., I am forced to continue on the RE db side. And with regards to reporting on gifts, we do not plan on paying the extra cost for Insight Designer until there is the ability to use gift attributes, gift codes, etc --that we have with RE Reporting. Very disappointed! It is getting harder and harder to stick up for Blackbaud when colleagues complain.
