Does anyone know a way to download an entire directory of both live and expired files?

I discovered some folders filled with expired press releases, video, and other items that we aren't currently using.  Rather than just delete the files, I'd rather back them up offline first as we don't want to lose all that data.

I'm hoping that deleting all these will greatly lower our storage usage.

  • I don't know if there's a way you can do just expired files, but I know that you can export all the files of an entire content type, regardless of their status. If you go into that content type, in the upper-right hand corner, you can see "Export Items." That will export everything in that content type into a CSV file. Once it's a CSV, you should be able to do a quick sort in Excel and get only to the expired ones.

What about an entire directory and all its sub-folders?

The CSV includes the site relative path. You could sort or filter by that. You can also use the static site download tool to get a copy of your images and other binary content. Unfortunately, that also means piecing things back together after the download.

Sorry, I meant that I don't need to download a specific content  type, I just need to download all files/sub-folders in a specific folder.

Just like copying a folder off a regular FTP client onto my desktop, but obviously without the drag and drop functionality.

    Chris,

I'm pretty sure that's not possible. Your only options are to either export particular content types (in which case you'll be able to have an archive of expired items), or download your static site (in which case you'll have real content items, but not necessarily the expired ones).

If someone else knows of a way to do it like an actual FTP action, I'd love to know.

    Marissa
