Working remotely

Options
We are a self hosted site.   Many of our users have laptops, which they departed campus with when MN went to a stay at home order.  Most are connecting to us via a VPN with a variety of experiences.  If you are lucky enough to have high speed, cable based, internet service at your home and you used a wired connection - your experience is okay.  If you have DSL, live in a rural area, or are using a wireless connection in your home as opposed to wired - as one can imagine, the experience varies a great deal.

So in this time of work from home, what are other self hosted sites using to keep their workforce working.

  • Hello, remember that Raiser's Edge is not supported over a VPN connection. I've used it over a VPN connection using DSL and it's pretty clunky, even though it works. You could look into some remote desktop options for heavy users.

Your best bet overall is to be using Microsoft 365, but if this isn't installed then VPN with shared folders on your network will suffice. Make sure your laptops are secure as well (whole disk encryption, etc.).
