Solicit Codes and Mark as do not email

Options
I have a lot of data entry projects coming up. I have new people to add to the database and also some people who do not want to be contacted.

I want to make sure I am making the proper procedures to ensure my database stays accurate and that we do not contact someone who does not want to be contacted.

I wanted to know when someones says they no not want to be contacted via email do you change the solicit code and also mark them as do not email? Or is making one or the other good enough?

Also when you change a solicit code to do not email what does that do to the other emails on the record?

I am trying to understand the difference between the two and I am having a problem getting the correct data pulled on the queries?

Also I need to know this because I have to put a draft together of our policy and procedures for our staff.

I am new to Blackbaud and just need some help and understanding.

If you have sample query paths or explanations please send them.

Thanks for all your help!

  • Hi, Khalilah Anderson‍! Welcome to Blackbaud!  It can actually be a lot of fun to use this stuff!  I have good news and bad news for you.

The good news: there's no absolute "one" way to do things.

The bad news: there's no absolute "one" way to do things ;-)

The difference between "Requests No Email" and using a Solicit Code for No Email is largely based upon what YOUR organization does (or wants to do).  You can use both the checkmark and the Solicit Code or just use on or the other.  As long as you consistently do things the SAME way when you enter data and when you query on that data you should be good.

Personally, I would do one OR the other.  There's no sense in "double coding" people with a Solicit Code and a "No Mail" checkmark if they both mean the same thing.  And if you do "double code" you're more likely to have some records that have that only have one or the other chosen, causing more confusion and data cleanup.

Our organization uses the "Requests No Email" checkmark and we do NOT have a "No Email" solicitation code.  There are lots of past discussions on here all about what solicit codes work best for what organizations.  Good luck with whatever you choose to do!
