Hello friends,


I'm reaching out to the greater Blackbaud community to sadly announce to those of you who know Harriet Farmer‍ that she passed away on Sunday, February 16.

She was a well-known personality among the Blackbaud community and BBCon crowd before her retirement in 2017. Harriet joined the Ottawa Humane Society as Coordinator: IT in 2000 after a long career in the private sector. In her time at the OHS, Harriet made outstanding contributions. She was constantly coming up with great new ideas for our various databases and how to leverage technology to move the OHS ahead and meet its growing needs.


At BBCon, both Blackbaud representatives and conference attendees would constantly enthuse about Harriet’s ingenuity and how lucky the OHS was to have her. Her enthusiasm was infectious, as was her great sense of humour. 


Harriet wasn’t just a talented professional, she was an active hobbyist with diverse interests and passions — from miniatures to cooking, travel, animals and more. Harriet was a great friend to many of us, and she will be missed.

    I spent a good amount of time with Harriet at BBCON 2016. She even gave me an OHS t-shirt. She was a great lady and a phenomenal database manager. She's going to be sorely missed by many.

    Thanks for letting us know.  This is sad.  I remember Harriet well and fondly, she definitely was a presence at bbcon.  Thanks for posting this nice remembrance of Harriet.

    Thank you so much for letting us know. I've known Harriet since the BBCon was in Charleston. She has always been an inspiration to our community and an amazing animal lover and friend. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.
