Selecting Constituent Codes - Suggestions Needed!

Options
Hi Community,

Looking for some suggestions to a situation that has recently come up. I work for a national organization which supports a network of food banks. Leading up to the holidays we received a ton of phone calls of corporate/student/community groups who were running food drives at a local level and were looking for support. A person on our team was in contact with these people for several months, and we would now like to put that information into RE. Any suggestions for constituent codes? We want to track this information so we can reach out again next year.

I don't want to call them a "prospect" or "donor", because the funds won't be coming to us. Community Organizer? Fundraising Group?

If anyone else has been in a similar situation, feedback would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  • Discussion moved to Raiser's Edge forums. Thanks!
  • I like the suggestion of "Community Partner" for a Constituent Code, but I would suggest that whatever you call them internally should be your Constituent Code (unless it's unprintable!). I'm a big fan of keeping the number of Constituent Codes to a minimum and using Attributes to sort these larger groups into smaller ones. Perhaps the Community Partner is a good grouping for you, then the next level would be a table Attribute called Partner Type with the most common choices (K-12, College/Univ, Business, Religious Org, Neighborhood, Senior Center/Home) and an "Other" option for the weird one-off (the local sewing circle, the bridge club, the people who meet at the dog park, etc). If you want to separate these people/orgs who give to local food banks from people who give to you directly, make sure to think about how you want to track/report them - do you permit multiple Constituent Codes (I would) and which one is the primary code? Always look at what you want to report or track at the end and work back to where the splits will make most sense for you!

We call this type of organizer a "Third Party Coordinator" - it is entered as a constituent code.
