Ack Letters

Options
I have a constituent whose spouse is deceased yet when the Thank You letter is created the deceased's name still appears on the letter. I have checked every place imaginable and followed the instructions yet I cannot seem to get the deceased spouse's name removed from the letter. I checked the Letter Template and the individual constituent records. Any suggestions of where I may be overlooking something??

Thanks for any help!

  • Hi Bonnie-

Check all of the Addressees and Salutations on the record. If you look at the code you used to build your Thank You letter, you should be able to determine precisely which Addr/Sal contains the deceased persons name. If that doesn't solve the issue and you want to take drastic measures, you could delete the deceased spouse (assuming it's a non-constituent record) and add the spouse back as a relationship without checking the spouse checkbox.

Have you checked the addressee on the acknowledgee record?  Perhaps a spousal record that is still set up as Mr. and Mrs.?
  • Sounds like your configuration is set to export the Addressee using "From Configuration" instead of "From individual."

Regardless, if a spouse is deceased you probably don't want them having the Is Spouse flag on their Relationship record.  They are no longer an active spouse.
  • Ditto on John's comment. I should not have recommended deleting the non-constituent spouse and re-adding it when you can easily pull up the spouse in the Relationships Tab and uncheck the spouse checkbox.
  • Thank you all for your help especially John --- this was exactly the fix I needed. Thanks again!
