Solicitor Specific Record gives results, but not Solicitor List

Options
Has anyone else had the instance where a Gift Query using the field Solicitor List does not give results, but if using Solicitors>Solicitor Specific Record in the criteria will get results?

Doesn't appear to be a reason why.

Is the Solicitor List field corrupt?

(Meanwhile I have 2 other users who get results from the Solicitor List field.)

Thanks.

  • Is there a difference in the format in which users are entering the name into the query? e.g. <Firstname Surname> vs <Surname, Firstname> or <Firstname Initial Surname>
  • The difference with the Solicitor List is that I enter the values by pasting in the names of the solicitors.  With the Solicitor Specific Record, I actually can search for the record (by name or ConsID) and choose that.
  • I've found that solicitor name is stored/displayed differently in some parts of RE than others, for example in some places I'm "Alan J French" and in others I'm "French, Alan". I think that might be a user setting, so could vary from person to person.

Also, as a separate issue, with the Solicitor List field you have the added complication that there could be several names concatenated together, e.g. "Alan J French; John J Doe" so if you're using the 'equals' operator rather than 'contains' then you may end up undercounting where you have actions that are assigned to more than one person.
  • When you use solicitor list as your query criteria, you need to type in the solicitor's name exactly as it would appear as constituent name.  So "Robert C. Hernandez".  And if someone ever changed is name to Bob, your query would not work.  Solicitor List is also pulling from Gift Solicitor.

If you use Assigned Solicitor -> Specific Record, which has always been my preference, you are pulling from the Assigned Solicitor on the Constituent's Relationship tab, and NOT the solicitor on the gift itself.  I was just testing this out for a client and found this knowledgebase article to verify.  I wish it was different, but alas, it is not!

If you have webview (NXT) you can run gift solicitor lists a little more easily, since there is a "fundraiser credit" filter in a gift list.  I created a list of gifts given during this fiscal year where a board member is assigned and given solicitor credit that this client can use for their give/get reporting.
