Options
Good Afternoon,

Any of you guys use different constituency code in RE for a New Parent (1st year) and Returning Parent( 2nd year and so on)?

Thank you

  • Moved to RE product community.
  • I use Current Parent as the constituent code and track the parent via an attribute.  The attributes are Freshman Parent and Transfer Parent and they have a date associated with them. For instance Fall parents are normally imported in August so my attribute date will be 8/1/2019 and last year Freshman Parent date was 8/1/2018.  Using the dates, I am able to pull the last four years.  Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Others may have a better work-around but this way have worked for me.

I am also interested in what some others are doing ?

  • They are all current parent but they can be pulled two ways to get the new parents.

    1. give you all parents with a new student starting (even if they already had one child enrolled) . But querying on Current Parent AND Relationship Individual Primary Education Date Entered

    or

    2. Just new parents that have not had the experience of being a parent at your institution yet, first child attending.  The Constituent Code From Date is greater than or equal to whatever date you put as the start date of the constit code.

You can them have a query of all currents parents and use Merge to Subtract the New Parents and that give you the returning parents.
  • We do something similar to Christine Cooke‍ with our parent constituent codes, but with a twist!

When we import students we give them a constituency code of Student and Date From 9/1/19 (for this year).

When we import the parents and link them to the students we give them all a Current Parent constituency code.

Doing this we can create queries like this:  Select all Current Parents with a son/daughter who is a Student with a Date From 9/1/19 (freshman)

This allows us to query on parents of any level of students relatively easily and we can even use a mail segmenting to put parents into one group (if they are the parent of a Junior and a Freshman)....
