Where can I get a single license for Crystal reports cheaply for education?

Where can I get a single license for Crystal reports cheaply for education?  I googled it and there are so many vendors. I want to be able to tweak the templates in RE and FE and possibly create new ones. It would be just me using the license, so maybe a desktop version.

Also, side note where can I get SSMS, SSRS licensing as well?

Thank you,

Ted

  • Your purchase of RE should include one copy of CR.
  • Yes, Crystal reports does come with RE. Contact support and they will provide you a file to download.

  • SSMS is free, just google it and the top result is the download page from MS.

I could swear I downloaded SSRS for free a couple years ago, but I never really used it and when I changed computers I didn't reinstall it.  Now I don't... Oh wait I found it, if you google where to download SSRS it'll bring up MS's page for it.
  • Thank you all, good answers and got a license and SSMS.  Now have to work on finding the .rpt files :-)

  • If you're trying to take the "canned" reports from RE and turn them into custom reports, I doubt that will work.  They use different ways of communicating with RE.  The canned reports use a special API called from RE that includes report parameters, etc. that are not available to us mere mortals.  Custom Reports in RE use the Export module of RE to create a special Access MDB file that can include multiple tables in a single Export.  That MDB file is then used as the data source for the custom CR .rpt file.
  • John is right.

Sometimes I just export to Crystal to quickly modify the Grouping of a canned report. That works, but you can't save and reuse that modified report as far as I know.

You will have to create one from scratch.
