Event Module - cannot mark an attendee as a constituent - spouse attending event, not head of HH

Options
Hi, we have been using the Event Module along with Online Express for about a year.  While, for the most part, I am pleased with the product, there is a big shortfall - add a spouse (who is a constituent) but not the head of the household.

We are a faith-based organization, and often have the parish (organization) sponsors a parish member (a constituent, often the wife).  The attendee is not the head of the household (usually the husband).  As you can see from the picture below,  I want Linda to be the guest of the sponsor (her parish), not Ed.  I can add Linda as a guest, then she is not marked as a constituent.

The only way around this is for Linda to have two sponsors, first her parish, then her husband - and that does not make any sense at all.

Thanks

Jocelyne

From your picture, it looks like the spouse (Linda) is not actually a constituent, but just listed as the spouse on Ed's record. In the event module, you can manually enter her as the guest of the parish without her having her own constituent record or having her husband as the sponsor. If she does have her own constituent record in RE you should also be able to look her up when adding a guest to the parish record as well and link directly to her record.
  • Thanks for your response.

We consider spouses as constituents.  For us to make every spouse a constituent on their own and then link the wife and husband through relationships is to much work to begin that process.  It would mess up the gifts and all other issues and most of our "members" (constituent and spouse) give as a family, not as individuals.  We receipt the 'couple', not the individual when there is a wife/husband relationship.  Letters are sent out to the 'couple' not as individuals.  So, I still see this as a weakness.  I would like to be able to pick the constituent (head of the household) or the spouse in the event module as an attendee.

If I manually add the spouse as a guest, there is no record in the constituent profile that the spouse attended, therefore the constituent profile is incomplete.

  • Hi Jocelyn,

It seems that this is an issue with a lot of your families, so I would recommend adding to the drop down menus for Participants  "Spouse Invited", "Spouse Attended", Spouse Accepted, and Spouse Registered.  You can link the HOH record and add the spouse who is attending as a guest to that Participant record. That will allow you to track it in the HOH record, but also see that it was the spouse that attended and that name will appear as a guest on your reports. I wouldn't normally recommend adding these to a drop down, but in your case it is needed if you don't want to create separate records for the spouses.

I've never tried this but it might work for you. Good luck!
