Deceased Constituents

Hi, I found some past threads on this but I need a bit more feedback. We just enabled the Deceased field in LO and I'm wondering what others do when updating records. For a deceased constituent do you check the Deceased check box or do you remove the record? The replies in the other thread all mentioned that they do not remove the record, mostly because they don't want to lose gift info. But isn't gift info in RE, with RE (or whatever database you use) being the "database of record?" Does removing the record change any email statistics or giving totals? Also, does removing the record lower the billable record count? What am I missing when it comes to removing deceased records?

    We mark constituents as deceased in the Constituent360 profile. In a few cases, we will actually modify the record to reflect the surviving spouse to retain interaction and transaction data and to remain in contact. We rarely use the Remove record function as that cannot be undone easily, so if a mistake is made then Blackbaud Support has to be involved in fixing the record.

  • Hi all, we have also enabled the "deceased" function. However this still does not hide their information from searches and our front desk staff cannot always see back office notes in the Altru daily sales function. So I think the current system is a bit flawed. Thanks,
