Planned Giving in RE

Options
Hi all,

My organization is about to start a brand new planned giving program. Fortunately, we have the Planned Gift Tracker module included in our contract and so we will be able to enter planned gifts that way. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in their own institutions creating a new planned giving program and how you have used RE prior to the program and transitioning into it.  In particular, we have been tracking any bequests gifts we have received so far just like we would a regular gift.  Would you advise we go through all of our bequest gifts and change those to be the gift type of "Planned Gift", or just leaving them be the way they are?

Thanks!

  • We converted to Raiser's Edge about 9 years ago from a legacy system and we also had all our planned gifts as "pledges" in our old system.

When we moved we DID go through all our bequests (and pooled income funds and gift annuities) and set them up properly as "Planned Gifts" in RE. It wasn't our highest priority project, but I think we were able to get everything done within the first year of converting.  By converting all your past gifts you'll be able to more easily compare past results with future results, be able to run comprehensive built-in reports and it will give you a chance to re-examine some of those old gift records that may need to be further researched (at least, that's what we found ?)

The Planned Giving module in RE has some quirks, but we're overall very pleased with it.  Good luck!
  • I am looking for some practical implementation of the PlannedGiftTracker module in RE.  We have converted over a our records from our old system, but I am confused as to good statuses to use (we may be interfacing with PGCalc) and then how do we ensure that bequests that are not yet realized are not included in someone's lifetime giving or for example, if the planned gift was withdrawn or never fulfilled (constituent has died years ago, and unlikely that we will receive anything now) to be excluded from various reporting.  Some policies and procedures about using the PlannedGift tracker would be greatly appreciated from a practical day to day data entry perspective.
