Best Practice for Marking an Organization, Corporation, Church, etc. as 'Closed'

Options
Hi All - I'm looking for any suggestions/recommendations/best practices for marking organizational records as closed/if it no longer exists.

So far I have;
  • Marking the record as inactive
  • Using the 'date to' field on any constituent codes
  • Using 'date to' to show the end of any solicitor relationship
  • Using 'date to' for any relationships and changing the status to 'Former Employee' for example
  • Mark the address as invalid/do not mail
  • Adding any appropriate solicit codes like 'No Email', 'No phone calls', etc.
  • Adding in a note relating to the closure of the org. if available
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!

  • whenever I have had to do this.  I checkmark Invalid Address, Uncheck Send Mail and type a hyphen and OUT OF BUSINESS after the name of the Org.

    If not there, then as the top line of the Address.

    They will still show up in reports that show historical/analytical info but not get pulled into mail lists.
  • I also give the closed church a constituent code of "Church Closed".  This is way to avoid re-pulling it when I send to denominational lists.
