Parent Participation for Annual Giving as per class

I do this by query and export. I do each class year separately because parents have children in more than one class. I use a query that has an "ask" operator for the class year criteria so it goes pretty quickly. I export all of the parents who have a child in that class with a column with their total giving for the year.


Our parents are linked to their students in relationships and the student also has the relationship to the school with their class yearon their education record. Are your parents and their students linked this way?

For participation we count their giving for each classroom. When we're counting the total that actually adds up to the total given their donation goes with their primary constituency. For participation we want them counted wherever they belong. Kind of confusing - and maybe not the way I would do it if it were my decision.

We use the Parent Class Analysis Report (in Reports>Analytical Reports). We use a query of Current Parents (based on Constituent Code) to include them in the report. Then we filter on Class Years that are currently still students (as opposed to Alumni) and Parent Code. You can also filter down to certain campaigns, funds or appeals. Under Format tab>Detail>Children Meeting Criteria, we choose "Attribute to child graduating last", meaning the youngest child. But you also have the choice to attribute to child graduating first (oldest child) or to split attribution of the donation evenly between children, if those are how you'd rather track it. Then in the Summary report, it gives us the totals and percentages of giving broken down by Class. This works excellently for our purposes. The only hiccup we have are that our Annual Fund team does not want to include non-giving divorced parents in the participation percentage. Basically they want to cheat on the participation numbers by not counting 1 of the divorced parents in a couple in the number of parents in a class, but then DO count their participation of both parents of the divorced couple if they both give (and still not adding them back into the total number of parents in a class.) Which is very hinky to say the least, so they do that mathematical magic by hand after I give them the report numbers.
