How granular are your payment types in RE?  


I'm thinking of creating a payment type for Square.  Right now my process is if we get a donation from Square I use wire transfer as the type and make a note in Reference that it came from Square.

    We use:

    Pay Method: Credit Card (includes Debit Cards)

    Credit Type: blank or PayPal

    So if Square is just another merchant portal, then we wouldn't record it - we've used a variety over recent years: RSM2000, World Pay, Stripe, PaySafe.

    We are very granular in recording all of the information surrounding a gift.  


    The pay method field tracks how they paid at the high level.  We use a gift attribute to track the different payment processors/portal in which a gift comes to us -- a subset of the pay method.  We have several active sources and it helps us when we need to find a transaction to know the original data transmission method.  (In-house bank deposit, in-house credit card charge, lock box, EFT, retail site, PayPal, Stripe, etc).  We use the reference field to track other information about the gift that would be relevant to the donor.
