A Query Query!

Options
Hi Everyone,

I'm putting together a report and I can't seem to figure out how to make this as simple as possible.

I have a query set to group donors who a) donated a cumulative 5,000+ to any fund in the past fiscal year, and b) donated in stock to a specific fund in the past fiscal year. It's about 20 people. I now need to generate a list of all the stock gifts these people (and only these people) made in the previous fiscal year. Which is where I get hung up.

Current plan is to run a gift query for stock gifts from last FY, and under constituent information just select "name,"  "one of," and manually list the 20 people the first query gave me. But for future reference is there an easier way to do it that i'm just not seeing? If only RE let you base a gift query off of a const. query. Sigh.

  • Since your query constrained your constituent list to the 20 people you are interested in, can you not double-click Gift Amount under the Gift dimension in a Constituent Export and ask it to spit out, say, 20 gifts of Gift Type Stock/Pay-Stock etcetera, which will produce the exact set of gifts you're looking for? Below is a screenshot from a Constituent Export where I double-clicked on the Gift Amt. You can specify Stock gifts on the third tab.

Oh this is interesting- just doing it through the export. My plan was to create a gift export from the results of the gift query, as we needed the dates, amounts, and issuer symbol/median price for each stock gift. If I did it though the export, I was thinking it might take a while to set up as I'd have to set the criteria for each field I wanted to export again...though in theory I'd only have to do it once and then save the export for future use. I'll play with it and see what happens.

  • I think they idea you mentioned up front would work fine. It sounded like you were identifying your constituents with a constituent query so it seemed to make sense to me to just output the information in an Export rather than having to copy/paste a list of Ids from one query's output into another query's input. Just a thought.

I did it through the export and it worked perfectly! For some reason I thought I would have to set the parameters ( date, stock gift, etc) when setting each export field, but it kept it consistent. And now I can just re-use the export when I need this kind of thing again. Thank you!!!
