Interfacing file from RE to Microsoft Dynamics GP

Options
Is anyone using Microsoft Dynamics as their GL system?   If so, I am looking for a file layout for the posting file from RE that Microsoft Dynamics will accept.  I am the Database Administrator (brand new) for RE and don't know anything about MS Dynamics.  Our previous fundraising database had a smooth interface such that I never saw the file format from the old database system.  Please let me know what you know about this process.  Thanks!

  • Hi Debra-

You'll probably get a better answer from the Microsoft Dynamics community, but maybe this link will help.

"Yes it's possible. The preferred method is to use Integration Manager, a separate GP app. The format of the CSV file is less important because with IM you map the CSV fields to the appropriate GP fields. There are some other options but none of them are as simple or straightforward as IM."

    Hi Deborah,

We are currently converting to Dynamics 365 and have been testing the "post to GL" report and saving it to a csv file to import.  We don't need all the donor detail in the GL, so we run the reports in summary.  There are a lot of extraneous columns and repeated data in the file.  I manipulate it in Excel extensively to get it to a format that can be uploaded.  We currently use Great Plains Dynamics and use integration manager for all uploads, but have never uploaded the GL posting report from RE.  Since we are  converting to Dynamics 365 we wanted to create a better process of recording the RE activity.  It is possible a product like ImportOMatic could make the process easier, but we do not have that.

Thanks Aaron.  I've done some research and that seems to be the way to go.  Thanks for the link!

    Hi Carol,

I will take a look at ImportOMatic.  We have GP Dynamics 2010 and it does everything our Assistant Director needs.  I am wondering though if we would have to upgrade to the latest version of MS Dynamics to use Integration Manager... I'll do some research to see what I can find.  Thanks for your response.
