Events Module and Greater Giving

Anyone use the events module in RE? We have to use Greater Giving because it has the auction features.  Does the RE event module come close? Any suggestions?

    Hi Leslie,

I use the RE Event Module and though our galas have silent and live auctions I've not kept that information in the module so I'm not sure if it has a place for that or not

Hopefully Crystal or someone will see this thread and move to Raiser's Edge board as someone there might have more info

The RE Event module really just handles the people of the event, attendees, sponsors and the elements related to that, tickets, food, seating etc.  It does not have the tools to run an auction, which requires recording the items, listing them in a catalog, posting them online, pulling it together through mobile bidding and on through the winning bid/purchase process.  -- Unless of course BB has remodeled the event module since the last time I had my hands in it 4 years ago, which I doubt based on other event module questions I see in the community.

We too do not have the event module and have an annual event with 1000 attendees with a live and silent auction.  We use GreaterGiving to manage all of it and then record the auction items donated, ticket purchases, sponsorships and auction purchase activity in RE -- for two reasons.  1. To have our donors RE records reflect their participation in the event and to what extent (only tickets or big spender) and because if there comes a time when our org decides to cease using GG, we would lose that info, so it is better to move it over.

Leslie, we have the event module in RE, but we still use GreaterGving too. Other posters are correct in that the Event Module does not do auctions. That is available via a separate plug-in I believe called AuctionTracker or something like that? It is an additional cost. Also, the RE Mobile App has some shortcomings too in comparison to GreaterGiving's terminals/card swipers the night of your event. After the event, I import all gifts into RE from GG and track other event related data in RE, because as someone said below, if we were to stop using GG we would want all that info in RE.

I believe there are multiple posts about this in other boards in the Community if you want to search for those.

Oh yes -- BB does endorse AuctionMaestro, which is an events management software, and it does have the push button to and from RE to sync info.

We also used Greater Giving.  Is there an established template for importing the information to RE?

No, there isn't an established template, but there are exports from GG that are RE specific and the column names are such that RE Import automatically recognizes which GG column should map to which RE column.  It isn't perfect, but it would work okay for many orgs.
