Recording donors as a "no" for this Annual Fund

Options
We are having a hard time figuring out how to record donors as a "no" for this year. We know they won't be giving this year and we don't want them to show up in any queries or reports as a  potential donor for this Annual Fund Campaign. I our old system we just recorded their gift as $0.00 however that does not work in RE because all donors that haven't given show as $0.00.

Does anyone a way to log these donors as a "no"?

We record a pledge of $0.00.  This allows us to exclude them in next round of asks as needed. I've made it work for us.
  • When we pull a report it shows all donors that haven't given to a campaign as $0.00. How do you tell the difference?

We can use criteria to pull records that do not have a gift to that fund. With a pledge on their record they have a gift on their record so I can remove them from queries.

What report are you trying to run?

We pull an export of renewal donors per campaign. If we enter them in as $0 we don't if they are a "no" or just haven't given since that comes out as $0 as well.

  • I get what you are saying now! We have one fund and use our appeals as more specific area so it threw me off. We will just create an appeal called 18 Declined Giving and exclude it from the reports. Awesome! Thank you! I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place!

Adding in an appeal would work - sounds like extra work to me. Not what I was thinking of.

Yes, in Export all turndowns and non-donors will pull with $0. Our filtering is done at the query stage before taking to Export.
  • We use an attribute, where the description is the year we next want to include them in an appeal. So if someone says they don't want to be contacted for 3 years, I'll put a "next appeal date" attribute of 2021 on their record, and then when I'm selecting constituents for an appeal I can exclude anyone with an attribute where the year is in the future. It's easy to delete the attributes via global change once they've expired.

We use solicit codes - No annual Appeal, then make an action to review for the next year.

  • We add a solicit code of "no solicitation" with an action with a reminder for the first of the next fiscal year to remove the solicit code. Then you can run a query the next fiscal year to quickly remove.

If you used an appeal to group those in the AF campaign, you could assign those donors a response code of "declined" or something like that.  That field could be queried, and you could simply run a report from the dynamic query.
