Send Mail to Spouse's Address (for Deceased Constituent)

Options
I would like to send mail to the surviving spouse of a constituent; however, on the Address Tab (2), at the bottom where there is a "send mail" to spouse's address, the button is not active.  Whenever I perform a merge, it prints the surviving spouse's name without the address.  Thanks!

  • Kelly, It sounds like you have not created an individual record for the surviving spouse yet. When you  go to Spouse and then click on the top where it says Relationship - hit "add this individual as a constituent".

Thank you, Cathleen.  I was afraid of that . . . I was trying to avoid using another Constituent ID.  I appreciate your help!~  Kelly

Another option is to flip the information (manually edit it) and make the main Constituent the living spouse and use the non-Constituent relationship record as the deceased spouse.

We have found it helpful to have a business rule set up which, upon marking a constituent deceased, prompts the step of making the surviving spouse a constituent. This has been helpful.

  • If you go with the method John describes, just make sure you pay attention to things like memberships, constituent coding, or attributes that are for only for the one spouse.  This may mean you can't do that method for that particular record and would have to make the surviving spouse her/his own new record.  For example, the deceased spouse was a board member.  If the surviving spouse is not, then that probably means you'd create a new record instead of just flipping them around.
