Customizing output on Reports

Is there a way to add more output fields to "canned" reports? I often don't use reports, but rather exports, as it doesn't seem like the canned reports provide enough detailed output information. Am I missing something? Any resource would be appreciated.

    Not beyond the fields available in the Columns tab or the Details section of the canned report. They're locked down pretty hard.

    That's what I thought. Thanks James! I guess I need to learn crystal reports, or just rely on query-export. thanks!
